Alum Gives Back Through GiveCamp

On October 18-20, UMBC hosted the third annual Baltimore GiveCamp, which was organized by Douglas McCaw ‘99, information systems. During this weekend-long hack-a-thon, more than 230 software developers, designers and database administrators donating their time to help 30 non-profit organizations complete various technical projects. Yvette Pappoe ’13, sociology, on UMBC’s BreakingGround

Yvette Pappoe ’13, sociology discovered her passion for learning during her time as a student at UMBC. Now, an intern with the Maryland Business Roundtable for Education, she’s continued pursing that passion after graduation. Her current project is to develop a strategy to recruit and engage college students with the Maryland Scholars Speakers Bureau. UMBC Alums and Faculty to Present “comfort/drones”

This November, the David Mikow Gallery—which is run by UMBC professor of political science Carolyn Forestiere—will host its first theatre performance. The play, “comfort/drones” is an original by UMBC professor Alan Kreizenbeck, and it will be performed by UMBC alumni: Rachel Hirshorn ’04, acting; Kevin James ’09, acting; and Daniel Friedman ’13, acting and psychology. The UMBC Athletic Hall of Fame Committee is seeking nominees for induction into the Athletic Hall of Fame. The next induction ceremony will take place on Jan. 25, 2014. To be considered for the UMBC Athletic Hall of Fame, a STUDENT-ATHLETE must have: Participated in intercollegiate athletics for UMBC for no less than two years. Received a bachelor’s degree from UMBC, UMAB or UMUC prior to induction. Represented the highest level of excellence when performing as a student-athlete at UMBC.
