Pete Caringi UMBC Soccer Show to Air Thursday Evenings on Q1370 throughout October

The Pete Caringi UMBC Soccer Show returns for another season on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013. The show will run for five consecutive Thursdays in the month of October as the Retrievers work their way through the treacherous America East Conference and attempt reach the NCAA Championships for the third time in the past four years. Caringi Earns More Conference, National Honors; Retrievers Rise in National Polls

For the second consecutive week, UMBC senior forward Pete Caringi III (Perry Hall, Md./Calvert Hall) has earned the America East Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week award. In addition, the Retriever striker was named College Soccer News’ National Player of the Week for games ending Sept. 8, 2013. Caringi and his teammates are off to a 4-0-0 start and have risen to Top 25 status in both the College Soccer News (No. 24) and Top Drawer Soccer (No. 25) men’s collegiate soccer polls. UMBC Soccer: Caringi Earns NSCAA and America East Top Weekly Honors

Senior forward Pete Caringi III (Perry Hall, Md./Calvert Hall) started his season with a bang and netted national recognition from the NSCAA, the America East Conference, Top Drawer Soccer and College Soccer News. Caringi was named the NCAA Division I Men’s Disney Soccer/NSCAA Player of the Week for games ending Sept. 1. Four UMBC Alumni Invited to U.S. National Team Tryouts

Four UMBC alumni are among the 98 invitees for the 2014 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championships, where the U.S. men seek to defend their title in Denver, Colorado on July 10-19, 2014. Attackmen Brendan Mundorf ’07, and Drew Westervelt ’07, will attempt to earn their second consecutive team selection. They were both members of the 2010 squad that won gold with a 12-10 victory over Canada in Manchester, England. UMBC Athletics Matches Best-Ever Finish With Third-Place Standing in America East Commissioner’s Cup Race

The UMBC athletic program matched its best-ever finish by placing third in the race for the America East Conference’s Stuart P. Haskell, Jr. Commissioner’s Cup. The Retrievers’ 19-sport program also finished third in 2007-08 and 2010-11 and bested last year’s fourth-place finish. Cambridge, Mass.- UMBC senior guard Brian Neller has been named America East Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for games ending Feb. 3, 2013. Neller netted a heavily-contested 25-footer with 0.5 seconds to play to propel the Retrievers to a thrilling 68-67 victory over Maine at the RAC Arena on Sat., Feb. 2. Anthony Adams Named One of Nation’s Top Assistant Coaches by College Soccer News

For the sixth time since 2000, UMBC associate head men’s soccer coach Anthony Adams has been recognized by College Soccer News as one of the top assistant coaches in the nation. The web publication cited Adams among 15 assistant or associate head coaches at the NCAA Division I level. He earned his fifth accolade after the 2010 season, and in 2003, he was one of 27 college coaches in the nation (all sports) to be honored as an Assistant Coach of the Year by AFLAC. Former Retrievers Kimener, Poillon Part of U.S. Lacrosse National Team for Capital Lacrosse Classic

Former Retriever midfielders Terry Kimener and Peet Poillon will be part of the United States national lacrosse team which will conduct an intrasquad scrimmage Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Capital Lacrosse Classic at Landon School in Bethesda. This is the latest step for the U.S. team as it prepares for tryouts next summer before the 2014 Federation of International Lacrosse World Championships in Commerce City, Colo. UMBC’s Liam Paddock Named 2012 ECAC Division I Scholar-Athlete of the Year

UMBC senior back Liam Paddock (Worcestershire, England/Chase Technology College) has been named the male 2012 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division I Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Paddock will be feted at the 2012 ECAC Honors dinner held in conjunction with the 24th Annual ECAC Convention and Trade Show that will be held September 29-October 2 at the Mystic Marriott Hotel & Spa in Groton, Conn. The Honors Dinner is slated for Sunday evening, September 30. Rider University soccer standout Abi Cottam was the female recipient of the award.
