Professional Licensure & Certification Disclosures
UMBC offers the following programs that meet the degree requirements for professional licensure in Maryland. Individuals may be able to graduate from one of UMBC’s programs, and then go to another state and be eligible for licensure if they meet all of the other requirements besides the degree. This page represents the best information currently available to determine professional licensure requirements and reciprocity with UMBC’s programs. Otherwise, if a state’s licensure requirements are not referenced, then the institution has not made a determination that its curriculum meets the state educational requirements for licensure or certification.
College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences
The UMBC College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) programs listed above meet the applicable educational requirements for certification or licensure in the State of Maryland. At this time, UMBC has not determined whether these programs meet the educational requirements for professional licensure or certification in other states or jurisdictions other than Maryland. Students seeking licensure outside of Maryland are encouraged to contact the appropriate state licensing board before enrolling in a program or applying for licensure to verify that the program satisfies that state’s educational requirements.
School of Social Work
- Social Work, B.A.
UMBC’s School of Social Work program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates are eligible to take the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Bachelor’s Examination (BSW) and apply for licensure in states that license at the bachelor’s level, including Maryland. Students seeking licensure outside of Maryland are encouraged to contact the appropriate state licensing board before enrolling or applying for licensure.
Division of Professional Studies
UMBC’s Division of Professional Studies programs listed above meet the applicable educational requirements for certification or licensure in the State of Maryland, where applicable. At this time, UMBC has not determined whether these programs meet the educational requirements for professional licensure or certification in other states or jurisdictions other than Maryland. Some professional certifications are national rather than state-specific. Students should consult their UMBC academic advisor, as well as the appropriate licensing or certifying authority in the state or jurisdiction where they intend to seek employment or licensure, to confirm current eligibility and requirements.
