Professional Licensure & Certification Disclosures
Some UMBC programs are designed to prepare students for professional licensure or certification. Federal regulations require universities to disclose whether these programs meet the educational requirements for licensure in each state. The tables below list UMBC programs that may lead to licensure or certification, along with the best information currently available about Maryland eligibility and other states.
A graduate of a UMBC program may be eligible for licensure in another state if they meet all of that state’s requirements beyond the degree. Where a state’s licensure requirements are not referenced, UMBC has not determined whether the program meets that state’s educational requirements for licensure or certification. Requirements change frequently—students should confirm current requirements with the relevant state licensing board and their program before enrolling.

Engineering licensure is a multi-step process (FE exam, supervised experience, then the PE exam). Professional licensure is uncommon in some engineering fields but available to graduates who complete these steps.

Reciprocity Agreements
In some cases, reciprocity agreements exist between Maryland and other states. These agreements allow a professional licensed in one state to earn a license in another, subject to that state’s specific requirements, and help states coordinate license transfers across differing licensing systems.
Most states extend reciprocity for certain licenses, but few offer full reciprocity for all licensed professionals from other states.
