Why Study Information Systems?

Learn how to design, build, and manage—or to be knowledgeable users of—the computer systems that we depend on in our everyday lives.

Data in all of its forms are being generated and consumed at unprecedented speed and volume. With the significant advancement in information and communication technologies, new opportunities—and new threats—are emerging. The interdisciplinary UMBC program will help you develop in-demand skills that prepare you for a career in information technology and information systems (IS). You will also have the opportunity to do research as an undergraduate, preparing you for your future career and building your problem-solving skills, and present your ideas at the IS Student Research Symposium.
