Why Study Applied Molecular Biology?

The two-semester applied molecular biology master's program is a fast track into the biotechnology industry and learning advanced laboratory research skills.

In this fast-tracked, two-semester program at UMBC, you will develop both theoretical knowledge and laboratory skills to participate in and direct research projects in the field of modern molecular biology.

With the support of a supervisor, you’ll choose from a selection of topics and prepare to lead a research project with the goal of making new discoveries; some students even wind up publishing in a peer-reviewed journal. You’ll also learn other methods of research from your peers and faculty members and have access to state of the art research facilities as part of your coursework.

Review Master of Science in Applied Molecular Biology Requirements

GRE scores are not required during the application process.

Undergraduate training in organic chemistry, general biology, genetics, cell biology, physics, and calculus; recommend having taken a biochemistry course; recommend undergraduate major in biochemistry, chemistry, chemical engineering, microbiology, molecular biology, or the biological sciences.

You will receive an email once the department processes your decision letter. You will be able to see your decision letter by logging in to the application website.
