The Science of Life: Biology Alumni Make Their Mark

We’re proud of all our alumni and love to keep up with all the amazing things they’re doing in their communities. Today, we check in on two biology alums to see what they’ve been up to since graduation. Hetal Kathrotiya-Mago ’07, biological sciences, and ’08, psychology, now a podiatrist with Foot and Ankle Specialists of the Mid-Atlantic, recently volunteered at a D.C.-area charity health fair to educate attendees about podiatry and proper foot care. Prepare for a double take: West Hill gets a makeover

After 35 years on campus, West Hill Apartments are finally getting a makeover! Over the summer, UMBC began work  to fully renovate five apartment buildings that house 236 students. West Hill, UMBC’s first campus apartment complex, has been here since 1980, so we’re sure you’ll agree the updates are as welcome as they are striking. The work on West Hill caps off several years of renovation projects for the campus apartments, and completion is anticipated in summer 2016. Spotlight on bwtech@UMBC

Alumni Delali Dzirasa ’04, computer engineering, and Andrew Mavronicolas ’14, information systems, were recently featured in a SmartLogic video promoting bwtech@UMBC. Both alumni run companies based in the research park: Dzirasa is the president of the software company Fearless Solutions, and Mavronicolas is co-founder of Backpack ‘Em, an online intra-campus exchange platform. Ellen Hemmerly, executive director of bwtech, is also featured. Keeping Up With the Doyles

For a university that’s only turning 50 next year, UMBC has already developed some pretty significant stories.
