UMBC Earns Maryland Charity Campaign Governor’s Cup Award

Over 1100 full-time employees contributed to the 2011 Maryland Charity Campaign, a participation rate of 70 percent, earning UMBC the Maryland Charity Campaign Governor’s Cup Award for Outstanding Performance for the fifth consecutive year. John Jeffries, Shelly Graham and Terry Aylsworth presented the Cup to President Freeman Hrabowski.

Robert Deluty, Graduate School, Publishes His 37th Book

Robert Deluty, associate dean of the graduate school, has published a new book of poetry, titled “Through Others’ Eyes.” In his review of the book, Dr. Ronald Pies states: “If, as Marcel Proust wrote, the only true voyage of discovery is ‘to possess other eyes,’ then Robert Deluty envisions the world through the eyes of a multitude. UMBC Announces New Certificate Program in Music Entrepreneurship

The one-year, post-baccalaureate Music Entrepreneurship Certificate Program is modeled around an innovative collaboration between UMBC and The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO). This marks the first time that a major American orchestra has collaborated with a university in a new academic program. With the BSO’s public education music program, OrchKids, at the center of the Music Entrepreneurship program curriculum, students will obtain practical experiences in entrepreneurial and educational ventures to make them successful twenty-first century musicians. Charles Brown, Athletics, on MPT’s “State Circle”

Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Dr. Charles Brown appeared on Maryland Public Television’s “State Circle” program on Friday, June 29. Dr. Brown discussed the effect that Title IX has had on intercollegiate athletics with host Jeff Salkin. The 30-minute program will be available for online viewing at http://video.mpt.tv.

President Hrabowski Inducted into U.S. News STEM Leadership Hall of Fame

Rebecca Boehling Named Director of the International Tracing Service in Germany

UMBC Student Leads Veterans Working with Baltimore Communities

The 6th Branch recently announced a partnership with Got Your 6, a national campaign encouraging veterans and civilians to work together in bettering their communities. Joe Adewumi ’12 Named to Capital One District 2 All-Academic Squad

UMBC senior tennis standout Joe Adewumi has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District men’s at-large team by the College Sports Information Director of America. Adewumi was one of 15 honorees from District 2 of the NCAA Division I level. He will now be considered for Academic All-America honors, along with those recipients from the other seven districts. The highly-decorated Adewumi was recently selected to the America East Tennis All-Academic squad, earning the honor in each of his three years of eligibility. Catie Collins ’12, English Literature and Psychology, Participates in Conference Call with Governor O’Malley and President Obama

Catie Collins ’12, English literature and psychology, participated in a conference call with Maryland Governor O’Malley and President Obama on Monday, May 7. The call, which included elected officials and student leaders from across the country, concerned the the effort to prevent interest rates on student loans from increasing this summer.
