Why Study Pre-Physical Therapy?

Get on track to become a physical therapist, a growing field of professionals who help patients reduce pain and improve mobility, also improving their long-term quality of life.

As explained by the American Physical Therapy Association, physical therapists “help patients reduce pain and improve or restore mobility” and “teach patients how to prevent or manage their condition so that they will achieve long-term health benefits” and “work with individuals to prevent the loss of mobility before it occurs.” Pre-Physical Therapy, as a pre-professional program, is a statement of intent on the student’s part, not an academic major. Students interested in pursuing a career in physical therapy begin their studies at UMBC by following the Pre-Physical Therapy curriculum in addition to the requirements for an academic major at UMBC. All students interested in physical therapy should plan to graduate first from UMBC and then go onto four years in a physical therapy school at another institution.
