Why Study Pre-Occupational Therapy?

Get on track to become an occupational therapist, a growing field of professionals who help people of all ages have a higher quality of life, including children with disabilities, people recovering from injuries, and older adults.

Occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants help people of all ages participate in the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities (occupations). Common occupational therapy interventions include helping children with disabilities to participate fully in school and social situations, helping people recovering from injury to regain skills, and providing supports for older adults experiencing physical and cognitive changes. Pre-Occupational Therapy, as a pre-professional program, is a statement of intent on the student’s part, not an academic major. Pre-Occupational Therapy students complete a bachelor’s degree at UMBC while following the Pre-Occupational Therapy curriculum, which consists of at least three years of prerequisites. Students then may go on to a Master of Occupational Therapy program at another institution.
