Why Major in Jazz Studies?

Develop your craft as a jazz musician with opportunities to record and perform.

Students in Jazz Studies take private music lessons with some of the most renowned musicians in the Baltimore/Washington area while developing their skills as bandleaders, composers, and arrangers, culminating in a junior and senior recital. You will also perform in a variety of ensembles in venues both on and off campus with the opportunity to record on state-of-the-art equipment. Individual creative projects are encouraged.

A degree in Jazz Studies prepares you for a career as a composer-performer, arranger, bandleader, and teacher. In addition to jazz performance, students are also prepared for related-genres including RnB, funk, latin jazz, musical theater, and other commercial styles.
