Mike Adelstein ’96, biochemistry & molecular biology, CEO of Potomac Photonics, recently moved the 31-year-old tech company to bwtech@UMBC. Potomac specializes in microfabrication and can machine a variety of materials at a size that cannot be achieved using conventional processes (think smaller than a hair follicle). Alums inducted into UMBC Athletic Hall of Fame

UMBC Athletics is pleased to announce that seven alumni and one current beloved staff member will comprise its 2014 UMBC Athletic Hall of Fame class: Justin Bronson ’09, men’s swimming & diving, earned five gold medals in America East Championship competition in individual races and three golds in relay events, in addition to numerous silver and bronze medals. He was selected as the America East Conference Swimmer of the Week once as a freshman, twice as a junior and three times in his senior year. It’s not often you find someone who has an art gallery in their home. But that’s exactly what UMBC professor Carolyn Forestiere and her husband, Asher, decided to do in the fall of 2012 when they opened the David Mikow Gallery in their living room. Ted Lawler ’99, bio sci & psych, named to Big South All-Decade Team

Ted Lawler ’99, biological sciences and psychology, was recently named to the Big South Network’s All-Decade Team for men’s soccer in the 1990s. From Big South’s website:  As part of the Big South’s 30th Anniversary celebration in 2013-14, the Conference is announcing its first-ever All-Decade Teams to recognize the student-athletes and coaches who excelled in their respective sport since the Conference’s founding in 1983. James P. Clements ’85, M.S. ’91, Ph.D. ’93 Named President of Clemson University

James P. Clements, ’85 computer science and ’91 M.S. and ’93 Ph.D., operations analysis, was recently selected to be Clemson University’s 15th president. Clements currently serves as president of West Virginia University. Clements was selected by the Clemson Board of Trustees to succeed James F. Barker, who announced plans to retire in April after serving 14 years as president. Prior to serving as president of Western Virginia University, Clements held positions as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Towson University. NBC Kennedy documentary featuring Gus Russo ’72, political science

Gus Russo ’72, political science, traces the lesser-known tales of the Kennedy assassination in a new NBC documentary airing on Novemeber 22. Ask Russo where he was on November 22, 1963, and he recalls it instantly.
