About Arts+
Celebrating+Connecting the Arts at UMBC
In fall 2025, UMBC will launch Arts+, a dynamic new initiative designed to celebrate and connect our vibrant and multi-faceted arts scene throughout campus and with the region.
Through Arts+, UMBC will be recognized as a transformative, inviting arts destination where creative interdisciplinary research and public-facing programming challenge, enrich, and inspire, reflecting the inclusive excellence of the university.
By embracing UMBC’s position as a leading voice in the arts, and celebrating the breadth and depth of work and research among our community in the visual and performing arts disciplines, we will look to arts+ as a catalyst for evolving our campus arts culture into an interconnected and innovative network that will prepare our students for their creative futures.

We Intend To:
- Celebrate the talent of arts faculty, staff and students at UMBC by enhancing the ways we engage our surrounding communities.
- Fortify our reputation in the region and beyond as a comprehensive research university, in which the arts are integral for the entire campus.
- Develop engaged regional audiences of all ages who visit UMBC as active participants in the arts.
- Establish a foundation for ongoing and thriving interdisciplinary connections between academic departments and centers.
A key component of the initiative will be a coordinated effort to bring K-12 students, and lifelong learners, to our campus to engage with the arts as a gateway to higher education.

During the 2025–26 academic year, Arts+ will explore a number of thematic areas:
- Trailblazers
- The Harlem Renaissance
- Space, Place, and Justice
- Connecting the Arts
- Artful Stories
Arts+ will celebrate not only work produced by faculty, departments, and centers, but also work produced by UMBC students.
Through a partnership with Student Affairs, more than 40 student events ranging from film festivals to exhibitions to music theater will celebrate the impact of the arts on the lives of our students, regardless of major.
