Genentech and UMBC: a Scientific Collaboration
UMBC and Genentech enjoy a growing scientific collaboration and a deep shared commitment to increase diversity among future leaders in science, technology, engineering and related fields. The Genentech-Meyerhoff Graduate Fellowship program was initiated in 2021 with a 5 year commitment to support two students per year, providing summer research opportunities at the Genentech campus in South San Francisco. The benefit of the partnership expands beyond the Fellows, when Genentech scientists present their research on campus as part of the Genentech Seminar Series.
Jack Kent Cook Foundation Partners with UMBC to Support Students
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation is dedicated to advancing the education of exceptionally promising students who have financial need. Recognizing UMBC’s record of advancing underrepresented students in STEM, the Foundation awarded $1 million in grants to the University in support of these efforts. The grant is split between current use and endowed funding to support current, incoming, and future STEM undergraduate students with financial need.
