Why Study Animation?
Deepen the foundational skills and techniques of your creative practice.
UMBC’s B.A. and B.F.A in Visual Arts both offer unique opportunities for you to explore art history, animation, interactive forms, film, graphic design, photography, video, print media and foundation. As a twenty-first century artist, you will study various media-art forms under the direction of internationally acclaimed faculty. There are various areas of concentration within the degree that allow you to broaden your knowledge and skill sets to achieve your professional goals, including a concentration in animation. You will engage in a sequence of hands-on production courses through traditional media and digital tools, investigating the history of animation. Advanced level courses in animation incorporate technically intensive experiences in 2D and 3D digital, hand-crafted, interactive, and hybrid processes, as well as exploration of emerging practices within the animation field.
You’ll graduate with a strong set of liberal arts skills that will develop your critical thinking skills and leave you intellectually curious for a successful career path in the visual arts and design.
