Why Major in History?

UMBC’s Bachelor in History prepares you to critically analyze information, construct persuasive arguments, and develop skills you will apply in all your classes and in your career.

We build the path to the future by understanding our past. What new insights will you discover?

With a history degree from UMBC, you’ll gain the ability to analyze decisions made long before us and compose arguments that reveal the significance of both everyday experiences and defining moments. Hone your critical thinking skills by sharing less well known stories or by taking new approaches to familiar stories.

You’ll graduate with new skills in research, critical thinking, oral presentation, and written communication. You will be prepared to begin a rewarding career in law, business, education, nonprofit or government service, and more.
