Why Study Applied Mathematics?

The Master’s in Applied Mathematics program provides training in applications of mathematics that prepares students for employment in a wide array of career choices in industry and government, with opportunities to contribute to pressing societal challenges.

UMBC’s master’s degree in applied mathematics provides training in applications of mathematics that prepare students for employment in industry or government agencies. The master’s degree can also serve as a bridge between undergraduate work and a doctoral program. There are two options: A course-based program culminates in a written comprehensive exam, and a thesis-based option culminates in completion of a research thesis.

Review Master of Science in Applied Mathematics Requirements

TOEFL score of >600 (paper), >250 (computer), or >100 (iBT) for international students whose native language is not English; solid background in mathematics and/or statistics
