Artificial intelligence, smart energy grids, the internet of things—you can find experts in all of these technologies in the department of computer science and electrical engineering at UMBC. The department offers master’s and doctoral degrees in computer science, computer engineering and electrical engineering. UMBC’s location in the Baltimore-Washington corridor makes a wealth of professional, cultural and recreational resources readily available. The area has the largest collection of federal government agencies and research laboratories in the country. The CSEE department has more than fifteen on-site research centers and labs and graduate students work closely with faculty members on research projects that interest them. Recent graduates have gone on to work at top universities, companies such as Google, IBM and Microsoft, government organizations such as NASA, NIST and NIH, and defense companies such as Northrop Grumman.
