Kimberly Moffitt, an associate professor of American studies, was a guest on WEAA’s The Marc Steiner Show on November 30 to discuss several local and national topics in the news. Moffitt, who is a frequent guest host on the program, participated in roundtable discussions on topics ranging from local elections to media coverage surrounding the shooting at a Colorado Planned Parenthood clinic last week.
In the local news roundtable portion of the program, Moffitt joined Luke Broadwater, a Baltimore Sun reporter, A. Rod Womack, author of Redwood and former owner of the Redwood Grill in Baltimore, and Richard Vatz, professor of rhetoric and communication at Towson University’s Department of Instructional Leadership and Professional Development. The panelists covered voter participation in the 2014 election, Gov. Larry Hogan’s approval rating and governing style, and the trial of police Baltimore Police Officer William Porter in the Freddie Gray case, among other topics.
In the national roundtable segment, Moffitt provided perspective as a media studies scholar on the national media coverage of the shooting at the Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood clinic. She joined Phil Tran, a political consultant, and Edward Wyckoff Williams, a contributing editor at The Root and political contributor and special correspondent with Al Jazeera America for the discussion.
