Ode to Joy: Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9

The Department of Music presents the UMBC Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Philip Mann with the combined choruses — UMBC Camerata, Jubilee Singers, and UMBC Gospel Choir — in a performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9.
Composed between 1822 and 1824 when Beethoven was almost completely deaf, the Ninth Symphony was premiered in 1824, and is widely considered one of the masterpieces of Western classical music. The last movement features the famous “Ode to Joy,” featuring chorus and vocal soloists.

Tickets are free, but reservations will be required. Tickets will be available in fall 2026.
