Percussionist Dustin Donahue, a new member of the UMBC music faculty, presents a concert featuring the premiere of a new work by Yiheng Yvonne Wu, and music by Kaija Saariaho, Thomas Meadowcroft, and Netty Simons.

Donahue has appeared regularly with many of southern California’s presenters of chamber music, such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Green Umbrella series, the Ojai Music Festival, Monday Evening Concerts, and La Jolla Summerfest. He has performed with the International Contemporary Ensemble, the Los Angeles Percussion Quartet, the Partch Ensemble, and ECHOI, and co-directs Wasteland, an ensemble and concert series dedicated to fostering experimental chamber music in Los Angeles. He appears on recordings for Mode, Naxos, New Focus, Populist, and Stradivarius Records. As a soloist, Donahue has been featured at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, the Carlsbad Music Festival, the John Cage Centennial Festival in Washington, D.C., Mengi in Reykjavik, Iceland, and the Percussive Arts Society International Convention. As an advocate for contemporary music, Donahue has commissioned and premiered a large body of solo and chamber music by living composers, such as recent collaborations with Carolyn Chen, Nicholas Deyoe, Laure Hiendl, Tania Lanfer, Bruno Ruviaro, and Steven Takasugi. He holds a DMA from the University of California, San Diego where he studied with Steven Schick and a BM from the University of Wisconsin where he studied with Anthony Di Sanza. He joins UMBC this fall as an assistant professor of percussion.
