Hailed by Frank Bruni in The New York Times as a “stunning music hall with sumptuous acoustics” and by Tim Smith in The Baltimore Sun as “architecturally and acoustically inviting,” the beautiful Earl and Darielle Linehan Concert Hall seats 375 people and is the site of both professional and student performances produced by UMBC Department of Music, as well as distinguished lectures and other events. Linehan Concert Hall is equipped with Steinway concert grand pianos and cutting edge recording and performance technologies. Earl and Darielle Linehan Concert Hall is ADA accessible.
Directions
UMBC is easy to visit, and is about 15 minutes from the Inner Harbor area and about 25 minutes from the Washington Beltway. We’re just off I-95 and I-695 with plenty of free parking.
• If you’re using Google Maps, search for UMBC Lot 8. If you use Apple Maps, search for UMBC Parking Lot 8A.
• From I-95 between Baltimore and Washington, take Exit 47B and follow signs to Catonsville and UMBC. At the second traffic circle, go 3/4 the way around to join the inner loop of Hilltop Circle. At the first traffic light, turn right onto Hilltop Road (with the PAHB on your right), and then an immediate left into Parking Lot 8.
• From I-695, take Exit 12C, Wilkens Avenue west, and at the first traffic circle go 3/4 the way around to turn onto Hilltop Road. At the traffic light, go straight through Hilltop Circle, and then take an immediate left into Parking Lot 8.

Free evening and weekend parking is available in Lot 8, adjacent to the Performing Arts and Humanities Building.
The entrance to the Concert Hall is through the doors near the large stainless steel façade.

Join the District5 wind quintet as they step into the shadowy musical world of “death.” This transformative program shines a light on the complexity, beauty, and fragility within a seemingly dark place. Seamlessly combining works from the Medieval era through present day, the concert features the powerful voices of composers such as Hildegard von Bingen, Carlo Gesualdo, Reena Esmail, and Esa-Pekka Salonen. Now in their 10th season, District5 is known for their creative and engaging programming.
Come and join us after work for a rush-hour concert when UMBC string faculty gather forces to present iconic string repertoire! Of the abundant string quintets that Luigi Boccherini wrote, the Quintet in D major, op. 40 No. 2 (G. 341) is one of the most renowned, with the exciting Fandango dance in the final movement. The quintet will be followed by Anton Dvořák's String Quartet No. 12 in F Major, op. 96 “American,” one of Dvořák’s most beloved and celebrated chamber works.
By the early 1980s, American composer Morton Feldman (1926–1987) began to create works of unusually long duration, featuring intricate interplays of pitches and patterns that slowly unfold (and sometimes suddenly change) over time. Among these works is the evening-length solo piano composition Triadic Memories (1981), performed in this concert by distinguished pianist and composer Amy Williams.
The Baltimore Classical Guitar Society presents classical guitarists Bokyung Byun and Lovro Peretić. Praised by Classical Guitar Magazine as “confident and quite extraordinary,” Korean guitarist, Bokyung Byun enjoys a reputation as one of the most sought-after guitarists of her generation. Peretić is an award-winning guitarist from Zagreb, Croatia, who has received top prizes in various guitar competitions and has performed widely throughout Europe.
Violinist and visual artist Nicholas DiEugenio presents a tour de force program featuring the complete sonatas and partitas for solo violin by Johann Sebastian Bach. Widely considered among the masterpieces of the Baroque era, the six works will be accompanied in this program by projections.
The Maryland Music Educators Association presents the All State Senior Jazz Band and Senior Commercial Band. Students from across the state will be selected to participate in this concert by audition, and students from multiple county schools will be represented.
Join us for an enthralling evening with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, as conductor Ken-David Masur leads the ensemble with Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony — a poignant meditation on fate — along with Toshio Hosokawa's contemplative Meditation to the victims of Tsunami (3.11). Cellist Zlatomir Fung, who has vaulted into the elite ranks of international soloists, will join the BSO for the First Cello Concerto by Camille Saint-Saëns.
Join us for a special evening with Misty Copeland, the first African American female Principal Dancer with the prestigious American Ballet Theatre and New York Times best selling author. In conversation with Kimberly R. Moffitt, Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at UMBC, Copeland will explore a variety of topics related to dance and her career. The evening will open with three works performed by UMBC dance students.
The UMBC Jazz Ensemble, directed by Matt Belzer, is joined by guest artist and multi-instrumentalist Aurora Nealand for a fabulous evening of jazz.
Celebrating the international exchange program between UMBC’s Department of Music and the Conservatorio “G. Nicolini” in Piacenza, Italy, UMBC welcomes Professor Riccardo Dapelo for lectures, concerts, and masterclasses. This event, “Gravitational Harmony," features RUCKUS, the UMBC faculty new music ensemble, with performances of works by Dapelo and others.
Celebrating the international exchange program between UMBC’s Department of Music and the Conservatorio “G. Nicolini” in Piacenza, Italy, UMBC welcomes Professor Riccardo Dapelo for lectures, concerts, and masterclasses. This event, “Soundscape as Composition,” features performances of Dapelo's compositions Sul Cuore Della Terra and Plume di Cielo su Ali Luce for audio fixed media and video.

The Baltimore Classical Guitar Society presents multiple Grammy winner Sharon Isbin. Acclaimed as “the pre-eminent guitarist of our time,” Isbin was named Musical America’s Instrumentalist of the Year, the first guitarist in their 59-year award history. In celebration of Leo Brouwer’s 85th birthday Isbin’s program will include selections from each of his three major stylistic periods.
Join us for a special performance of choro, Brazil’s first native music, featuring musicians Pablo Regis (cavaquinho), Felipe Garibaldi (guitar), Andy Connell (saxophone & clarinet), and André Coelho (percussion). Choro is the foundation of globally popular Brazilian music genres like bossa nova, samba, Brazilian jazz, and more. The performance will focus on repertoire from Brazilian musical traditions alongside contemporary innovations by some of Brazil’s most renowned musicians and composers.
