UMBC Camerata: Through Perspectives INjustice

Date: November 23, 2025, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Location: Earl and Darielle Linehan Concert Hall

A poster design says Through Perspectives INjustice.

The Department of Music presents the UMBC Camerata under the direction of Lulu Mwangi Mupfumbu. Their program Through Perspectives INjustice will explore the critical social justice issue of police brutality and its far-reaching effects on society, with a particular emphasis on its impact on youth of color:

  • Joel Thompson‘s Seven Last Words of the Unarmed, a seven-movement choral and orchestral work
  • Jarrett Roseborough‘s This Is My Black

A small choral ensemble consisting of auditioned singers from across the university, the Camerata performs a wide variety of works drawn from the expansive choral repertoire, including Renaissance motets and madrigals, folksongs, German part songs, Russian sacred liturgies, American spirituals, and new American concert works. Camerata has also performed choral masterworks with the Handel Choir of Baltimore and the Howard County Concert Orchestra.

Admission is free, but tickets are required. Please visit here to reserve seats.

Linehan Concert Hall, located in the Performing Arts and Humanities Building, is easy to visit, with plenty of free parking. Please visit here for directions and parking information.

This event is supported in part by the Arts+ initiative.
