About
Theodosia Gougousi is a Professor in the Department of physics at UMBC (University of Maryland, Baltimore County). She received her BS in Physics from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece in 1990 and her MS and Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Pittsburgh in 1993 and 1996. Prior to joining the faculty at UMBC in 2004, she held postdoctoral appointments at the University of Maryland, College Park, and North Carolina State University.
Research interests
Prof. Gougousi's research interests include the surface chemistry, deposition mechanisms, and electronic and photonic properties of thin films, interfaces, and other low dimensional materials such as 2D materials. In our laboratory, we specialize in Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) as our main thin film formation technique. ALD is a chemistry-based approach that relies on the choice of appropriate surface chemistry and as a result, allows atomic-level control of the film formation and properties. Prof. Gougousi has authored or coauthored more than 50 journal articles and received an NSF career award in 2009.
