About

Susanne Craig graduated in 2000 from the University of Strathclyde, UK with a PhD in Physics. Following her PhD, she postdoc’d in the U.K. for a time, then spent two years at the University of Southern Mississippi at Stennis Space Center. In 2005, she relocated to Canada where she spent 12 years as a senior scientist in the academic and federals sectors. In 2018, she took up a Senior Scientist position in the Ocean Ecology Laboratory at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Her areas of expertise include system vicarious calibration activities for the PACE mission, bio-optics, phytoplankton ecology, ocean-atmosphere interactions, autonomous ocean observation systems, and machine learning. Finally, she is actively involved in efforts to dismantle inequities in the scientific community.

Research interests

My research interest include ocean color algorithm development, radiative transfer modeling, phytoplankton ecology, ocean-atmosphere interactions, and the use of machine learning approaches in elucidating biogeochemical processes from ocean color measurements. Additionally, I have a strong interest in the development of autonomous measurement platforms for measuring ocean optical properties and atmospheric chemistry.
