About
Carlos A. Romero-Talamás received his B.S. in Engineering Physics from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, México in 1995; a Master of Space Studies from the International Space University, France in 1998; a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Applied Physics from the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA in 2005. He worked as a postdoctoral scholar at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory until 2008. He then joined the University of Maryland's Institute for Research in Applied Physics as a Research Scientist. In 2013 Dr. Romero-Talamás joined UMBC as Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, where he is now Associate Professor and has an active research group in plasma physics and fusion energy.Research interests
Dusty plasmas, fusion plasmas, plasma-materials interactions, magnetic topology changes through magnetic reconnection, magnetic self-organization, and their application to laboratory and astrophysical plasmas, including the burning plasma regime.Teaching interests
