In an article for Diverse: Issues in Higher Education, Ramon Goings, program coordinator for the Sherman STEM Teacher Scholars, writes about the changing landscape in higher education and how historically black colleges and universities (HBCU) can embrace change to thrive in the future.
Goings and co-author Marybeth Gasman, a professor from the University of Pennsylvania, encourage HBCUs to adopt a growth mindset in order to thrive in spite of changing demographics. “The future of HBCUs rests on the ability of education stakeholders to adopt a growth mindset and shift our conversations to focus on opportunities to enhance the strengths while providing support for areas of concern,” they write.
