Pete Caringi UMBC Soccer Show to Air Thursday Evenings on Q1370 throughout October

The Pete Caringi UMBC Soccer Show returns for another season on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013. The show will run for five consecutive Thursdays in the month of October as the Retrievers work their way through the treacherous America East Conference and attempt reach the NCAA Championships for the third time in the past four years. Caringi Earns More Conference, National Honors; Retrievers Rise in National Polls

For the second consecutive week, UMBC senior forward Pete Caringi III (Perry Hall, Md./Calvert Hall) has earned the America East Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week award. In addition, the Retriever striker was named College Soccer News’ National Player of the Week for games ending Sept. 8, 2013. Caringi and his teammates are off to a 4-0-0 start and have risen to Top 25 status in both the College Soccer News (No. 24) and Top Drawer Soccer (No. 25) men’s collegiate soccer polls. Eric Zeemering named Fulbright Canada Scholar

Dr. Eric Zeemering, an assistant professor of public policy, has been named a 2013-14 Fulbright Scholar by Fulbright Canada. He will spend five months at the University of Ottawa investigating how urban sustainability is defined in Canadian cities, with special attention on how social policy and programs are integrated with economic and environmental initiatives. Dr. Zeemering’s research and teaching interests focus on public management, intergovernmental relations and urban policy (see video below). UMBC ranked as a top college where students get ‘best bang for their buck’

According to a recent PolicyMic ranking, UMBC is listed as a top ten school where students get the ‘best bang for their buck’ in terms of cost, graduation rates and starting salary, and debt at time of graduation. Using recent data for average student debt upon graduation, starting salaries, tuition and room and board for four-year universities, six-year graduation rates, and percentage of students who qualify for Pell grants as rough indicators, the rankings identified the top dozen schools that are performing above average.

Dr. Patrice McDermott, Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, has been named Senior Fellow at the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) where she will partner with the STEM project, Project Kaleidoscope, on research initiatives designed to increase the number of women and women of color in academic STEM disciplines.
