Why Study Industrial/Organizational Psychology?

The Industrial/Organizational Psychology program at UMBC-Shady Grove features a dynamic curriculum taught by industry experts, equipping students with practical skills relevant to today’s job market.

UMBC’s master’s program in I/O Psychology, offered through the Department of Psychology, emphasizes key topics such as organizational behavioral management, consulting, human factors, and human resources practice. What Are My Career Options Studying Industrial/Organizational Psychology?

Industrial/organizational psychology professionals contribute to an organization’s success by improving the performance, satisfaction, safety, health, and well-being of its employees. The number of positions in I/O psychology and wages for I/O psychologists are increasing year-over-year. Many diverse career paths are available for those with an I/O psychology degree. These include working in the private sector, governmental agencies, education, and consulting. Upon completing the program, students will have also completed a professional capstone experience, developing a professional portfolio while building relationships with those in industry.

Review Master of Professional Studies in Industrial/Organizational Psychology Requirements

Prospective students must have practical work experience, a B.A. or B.S. in Psychology or a related field from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent OR; A B.A. or B.S. in another discipline from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent with coursework to include Introduction to (or General) Psychology in addition to an undergraduate course in Research Methods or Statistics. English proficiency testing (TOEFL/ IELTS) is required for international students. Please visit our website for detailed admissions requirements.

Statement outlining the student’s goals and expectations in the program

  • Current resume

Three letters of recommendation

  • Official transcript(s) from each college & university attended
