UMBC Response to Earthquake

At approximately 1:51 p.m. a 5.9 magnitude earthquake occurred that was centered in Mineral Virginia (near Richmond). The earthquake was felt up and down the entire east coast to include the UMBC campus. UMBC Police sent out a text alert at 1:56 p.m. advising people on campus to evacuate all buildings. The police checked critical infrastructures on campus to assess any damage and monitored the situation. It was determined at approximately 2:10 p.m. it was safe to reenter campus buildings. UMBC Men’s Soccer Receives Votes In Two Preseason Polls

The UMBC men’s soccer team has garnered votes in two national preseason soccer rankings and has been tabbed as the second choice amongst America East Conference coaches in the league’s preseason poll. UMBC was the only America East squad to earn votes in the NSCAA Division I national rankings and College Soccer News’ 2011 Pre-Season Top 30 poll. The NSCAA rankings included 25 teams, plus 14 teams which received votes, while CSN’s poll included 12 squads receiving votes. You are invited to join us in the culmination of new student orientation at the 2011 UMBC Convocation Ceremony. This annual event includes remarks from President Hrabowski, Interim Provost Rous, faculty awardees and student leaders. The ceremony will be held in the RAC Arena, 3:30-4:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 30. Immediately following the ceremony, there will be a campus-wide community picnic on the Quad. UMBC men’s basketball brings home an ESPY for “Best Moment” in sports

Fan votes have been tallied and the results are in: UMBC men’s basketball brought the nation the “Best Moment” in sports this year. UMBC’s historic victory over University of Virginia in the first round of March Madness was awarded this honor at the 2018 ESPY Awards, a red-carpet event broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.
