About

Dr. Michael Murphy has extensive experience with numerical weather prediction (NWP) and remote sensing of the atmosphere, with a focus on heavy precipitation producing systems in both the tropics and the middle latitudes. He studied at the University of Hawaii and Monash University, after which he applied GNSS Radio Occultation (RO) to sampling and forecasting Atmospheric Rivers at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography/UCSD. He is currently working to advance the use of RO observations in NWP at NASA’s Global Modeling and Assimilation Office.
