Research interests

I mainly research 19th and early 20th century Japanese art policy, specifically the creation of the National Treasure System. Sub-categories: national shrine and temple treasure investigations, the use of photography in cultural property protection, the creation of "art" museums, and the commodification of Japanese art

Japanese history and culture (primarily modern); history of East Asia; Japanese art history; women and gender in East Asia
