Professor · Non-Tenure Track

Department of Geography & Environmental Systems

About

Dr. Huemmrich has a life-long interest in understanding the natural world. This interest, coupled with his training in physics has lead him to work on remote sensing of ecosystems. He has performed fieldwork in a variety of different ecosystems, including working on NASA field studies in grasslands, boreal forests, and tundra.

Research interests

Dr. Huemmrich research focuses on the use of remote sensing to describe biophysical characteristics of terrestrial ecosystems and to utilize that information to improve understanding and modeling of ecosystem processes. He is interested in developing approaches that lead to global observations from satellite based sensors.

Teaching interests

Dr. Huemmrich has taught courses on Advanced Remote Sensing; Seminar on Ecophysiology and Plant Distribution; and Arctic Geography.
