About

Calla Thompson’s art practice crosses media and is a critical examination of our culture. Her work is exhibited internationally, and she has been the recipient of awards both in Canada and the U.S.

Research interests

The constructed image; the role of truth in photography; humor in visual and text-based works, particularly in relation to issues of power and resistance; site-specific installations; lesbian and gay history in Canada and Toronto in particular.

Teaching interests

The construction of the photo post-shutter, especially veracity in digitally montaged photography; documentary photography, particularly its status in the digital age, as well as the role of the contemporary photojournalist; and entrepreneurship in the visual arts.
