The Baltimore Sun has named UMBC one of the “Top Workplaces” in the Baltimore region for 2018. UMBC ranked eighth among all large employers in the region—the only university and only government institution featured on the list.

This marks UMBC’s sixth year in a row on the select list. The announcement was made shortly before the New Year, through a special section of the Sunday paper.

The Sun’s “Top Workplaces” ranking reflects the results of a confidential employee survey that measures job satisfaction, employee engagement, and organizational health.

This honor also follows UMBC’s recognition as one of the Chronicle of Higher Education’s 2018 “Great Colleges to Work For.” UMBC was highlighted as a distinguished “honor roll” university for the eighth year in a row, honored in nearly every measured category.

In describing UMBC as a workplace, President Freeman Hrabowski has said:

UMBC is truly a supportive and inclusive community. This is a place where we believe in mutual respect and in achieving great things when we combine our strengths and work together toward our shared vision.
