Why Study History?
Learn about local, national, and global history with classes that cover the Middle Ages to contemporary history.
As a History student, you will strengthen your skills in critical thinking, research, interpretation of evidence, and persuasive writing. You will have have lots of opportunities to do original research and to share your findings. Specialize in a specific topic, issue, or time period by choosing elective courses that match your major to your personal interests.
The history major can prepare you for Social Studies teacher certification at the secondary level, law school, or a career in the government or nonprofit world. Public History specialties include museums, preservation, and community engagement. Undergraduates may choose to earn both their bachelor’s and master’s degrees with an accelerated B.A./M.A. Program.
