Why Minor in Creative Writing?

Unleash Your Imagination with UMBC’s Creative Writing Minor, where you can explore and refine your craft across diverse genres.

The Creative Writing Minor at UMBC offers students from any major a chance to dive deeply into the world of storytelling and expressive writing. This program allows you to develop your skills in fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction while learning to read and critique literature with a writer’s eye. Through a combination of workshops and literary events, students gain practical experience in creating and revising their own work, and in giving and receiving constructive feedback. The minor fosters a supportive environment where you can grow as a writer, both within and beyond the classroom. Engaging with the creative community at UMBC, you’ll have opportunities to attend readings, connect with fellow writers, and explore publishing opportunities, setting the stage for a lifelong passion or career in creative writing.
