Graduate Programs
Why Study Philosophy?
Learn how to think logically and critically about your most fundamental beliefs, attitudes, and values.
Philosophy courses are aimed primarily at people who take questions seriously, especially those that are important but troubling, and who want to know how to answer hard questions. The program emphasizes critical analysis, problem-solving, and forming and evaluating oral and written arguments as well as thinking logically and critically. The major also introduces students to a range of traditional philosophical issues and the writings of some of the greatest thinkers in history. The certificate program is for students (who do not need to be philosophy majors or minors) with specialized interests within philosophy. Certificates involve taking four thematically linked upper division philosophy courses. Philosophy students score highest of all majors on the LSATs, GREs, and GMATs.
