Dána-Ain Davis: /ˈgramərs/ of Racism: Obstetrics and Black Anti Bodies

The Social Sciences Forum presents Dána-Ain Davis, professor of urban studies and anthropology at the City University of New York (CUNY), where she is also director of the Center for the Study of Women and Society at the Graduate Center City University of New York. She will deliver the Health and Inequality Lecture on /ˈgramərs/ of Racism: Obstetrics and Black Anti Bodies.

Exploring Presence: African American Artists in the Upper South

The Center for Innovation, Research and Creativity in the Arts (CIRCA) presents Exploring Presence: African American Artists in the Upper South. This virtual program will include a screening of the short documentary film Exploring Presence: Ed Love, followed by a conversation with filmmaker and curator Angela N. Carroll and nia love and Scott Love about the legacy of their father, esteemed sculptor Ed Love.

UMBC Percussion Ensemble

The Department of Music presents the UMBC Percussion Ensemble under the direction of Tom Goldstein in a program of music by John Cage, Linda Dusman, Robert Carl, Alex Armbruster, Eric Shuster, Marilyn Bliss, Paul Hindemith, and Vinko Globokar.

UMBC Opera Workshop

The Department of Music presents the UMBC Opera Workshop under the direction of Sammy Huh, in a performance featuring scenes from Mozart's Don Giovanni, Delibes's Lakmé, and Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress.

UMBC Wind Ensemble

The Department of Music presents the UMBC Wind Ensemble under the direction of Brian Kaufman, performing music for the screen, including sounds from blockbuster hits, Saturday morning cartoons, and Academy Award winning scores.

Spring Dance Showcase

The Department of Dance presents the Spring Dance Showcase, featuring capstone work by three senior students and First Works projects.

Visual Arts Senior Exhibition

The Center for Art, Design and Visual Culture and the Department of Visual Arts present the Visual Arts Senior Exhibition, featuring work of graduating seniors in photography, graphic design, cinematic arts, animation and interactive media, and print media, reflecting the interdisciplinary orientation and the technological focus of the department. An Opening Reception will be held on Tuesday, May 24, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Maryland Arts Summit

UMBC is pleased to host the annual Maryland Arts Summit, a statewide conference presented by and for the Maryland arts sector, including arts advocates, arts educators and teaching artists, independent artists, arts organizations, youth, community stakeholders, arts and entertainment districts, county arts agencies of Maryland, public artists, boards of directors, and folklife artists.

Guided Nature Meditation in Joseph Beuys Sculpture Park — Forest Therapy with Nature Sacred

UMBC is pleased to welcome the Nature Sacred Firesoul Network to join our monthly Wellness Wednesday event at 12 noon on July 6, and the public is invited too! In partnership with Chesapeake Mental Health Collaborative's Center for Nature Informed Therapy, and supported by Nature Sacred, this forest meditation and nature therapy session integrates traditional therapeutic methods with the healing effects of nature to restore and rejuvenate the mind and body.
