Oletha DeVane: Spectrum of Light and Spirit — Nkisi Activation

In conjunction with the exhibition Oletha DeVane: Spectrum of Light and Spirit, on display through December 17, the Center for Art, Design and Visual Culture presents an activation of a large-scale carved sculpture, Nkisi Woman-Universal Nkisi (2021–22). During the event, visitors will be invited to add beads to the sculpture’s surface. The nkisi is a Kongo cultural figure invested with sacred energy, and this sculpture is one of the highlights of the exhibition, designed to catalyze communion and community-building.
Admission is free.
The Center for Art, Design and Visual Culture is located on north side of the Fine Arts Building, and visitors for this event may park free of charge in nearby Lot 8.
