Academic Support

With the right tools, all students have the ability to flourish at UMBC. We’re here to connect you with what you need to keep your academic progress on track.

Every semester, UMBC’s academic support services help students master challenging material and succeed in class. UMBC’s Academic Success Center receives over 30,000 visits for peer-led tutoring and supplemental instruction annually. Whether you need study tips or help perfecting a paper, the ASC team is ready to help.

Academic Advising

Students with declared majors at UMBC, are assigned departmental specific Academic Advisors for support with course selection and degree planning. There also are many students who prefer to explore all their options and/or may transition between programs as they select the best major to meet their academic, personal and career goals. Students who have not declared a major will work with Academic Advisors in the Office for Academic and Pre-Professional Advising  who are committed to helping students explore degree options and evaluate general education,  gateway, and major requirements. Students who are interested in Pre-Professional Allied Health Programs will also work with Academic Advisors in the Office for Academic and Pre-Professional Advising.

Academic Success Center

Through a coordinated approach and an unwavering commitment to student success, the Academic Success Center fosters a welcoming environment that provides a one-stop opportunity through Academic Policy, Academic Learning Resources, and Academic Advocacy for students to achieve their academic goals and claim their future with a UMBC degree.
