ELIGIBILITY
All current UMBC students (full or part-time), faculty and staff.
Each participant must be registered and have signed a waiver
form.
NO CURRENT VARSITY
BASKETBALL PLAYERS (Participants must be at least one full
calendar year removed from the end of their last season of
participating in Varsity competition in order to be eligible for
intramural play) * * NO MORE THAN ONE FORMER
INTERCOLLEGIATE BASKETBALL PLAYER PER TEAM *
* (This includes participation at a Junior College or other four-year institution.)
INSURANCE
All participants should check prior to play to make certain that
their personal insurance will cover any injuries that may occur
during intramural participation.
ROSTERS
All rosters will be checked prior to the start of the season.
Names appearing on more than one roster will be checked with
captains of involved teams. If the problem cannot be resolved, the
player(s) in question will continue to play for the team which
he/they initially registered. Maximum of 12 players per team
roster. NO ROSTER ADDITIONS AFTER THE TEAM'S SECOND
GAME.
INELIGIBLE PLAYERS
If a player participates on more than one
team in the same intramural event (may not participate in two
leagues, excluding men's and coed or women's and coed) the player
and the teams involved are subject to the following:
1 The player is automatically disqualified from further
participation in this tournament and may face further penalties
subject to review by the Tournament Director.
2 The team which the player originally signed up with will lose
the services of this player for the remainder of the tournament and
may not replace this player with another player. The team will
forfeit any subsequent games which the ineligible player
participates in.
3 Any other team(s) involved will forfeit all games in
which the ineligible player participated
in.
PLAYER RELEASES
Automatic release from team:
1. If player "drops" out of school. (This will be verified with
the Registrar's Office.)
2. If a player on a roster has not appeared in any of the games
during the regular season. The player will be released and will be
ineligible for championship
play.
TYPE OF TOURNAMENTS
Tournament format will be determined by the Tournament Director
depending upon the number of teams entered in the
tournament.
PRE GAME "SIGN-IN"
All players must be present in order to be signed in prior to
participation in each game with all required information on the game
score sheet. Any players not signed in will result in a technical
foul being assessed when the player is inserted into the game. In
case of forfeit, all players in attendance must
sign-in.
POSTPONEMENTS
If playing conditions do not allow games to be played, a notice
will be posted on the Intramural Bulletin Board as far in advance as
possible. Postponed games will be rescheduled at the end of the
season. If the outcome of the game(s) will have no effect on the
playoffs, the game(s) will not be rescheduled.
There will be no "request for postponement" from any teams. All
games will be played according to the tournament
schedule.
TEAM WITHDRAWAL
If a team can no longer continue to participate, the captain of
that team must obtain the "Team Withdrawal Form" from the Tournament
Director. All remaining games will automatically be forfeited to the
scheduled opponent.
FORFEITS
Forfeit time will be ten (10) minutes after scheduled starting
time. The decision of forfeit will be made by the Tournament
Director or by a designated official.
Reasons for forfeits:
1. Ineligible player(s)
2. Insufficient number of players to start the game: You must
have four (4) players to start the game.
3. Ejected players failure to comply in leaving the area
within one (1) minute.
4. Continual "unsportsmanlike conduct" on behalf of player(s) or team.
ENTRY FEE
There is a non refundable $50.00 entry fee due at the Managers.
Meeting. This fee is collected to offset the additional costs of the
officials and championship awards for this weekend event.
PROTESTS
Protests may be filed to question the eligibility of players.
Protests may also be filed for questions of rules interpretations,
not judgment calls. An "Official Protest Form" will be available at
game site. If at all possible, the protestable situation should be
solved at that time. If not, the officials will announce that the
game is being played under "protest". If the protesting team
eventually wins the game, the protest should be withdrawn, unless it
may involve a question of player eligibility. The written protest
must be accompanied by a $10.00 protest fee. That fee shall be
returned if the protest is upheld. That fee, however, shall be
forfeited if the protest is denied.
The "Official Protest Form" must be filed
with the Tournament Director within 24 hours of the activity. All
protests will be reviewed in a timely manner.
EJECTED PLAYERS/COACHES
Ejected players/coaches must leave the activity area (out of
sight and sound range within one (1) minute). A player or
non-playing coach can be ejected without a warning or "T"'s for
flagrant fouls, unnecessary actions, profanity and/or conduct. A
player receiving a second technical foul is ejected from the game
and must leave the activity area. Fighting will result in immediate
ejection from the game. A disciplinary hearing will be held, and
possible additional disciplinary action will be taken after review
of the incident.
Ejections will result in an automatic one (1) game suspension for
the next scheduled game. (The player is not allowed in the building
for the next game.)
INJURIES
All injuries, regardless of their severity, must be reported to
the officials. This will be recorded on the score sheet. The
Tournament Director will attempt to contact all injured players that
evening to check on their status.
If an injury appears to be serious:
1. Don't move the injured player.
2. Obtain the proper medical services (training room personnel)
immediately.
Any injuries occurring during intramural participation will be
treated by UMBC Training Room Personnel or by Student Health
Services. No participants are allowed in the Training Room to obtain
tape and/or other "services".

There will be no inner clothing available for intramural
participants. Although not mandatory, it is highly recommended that
teams have the same color jersey or shirt. Scrimmage vests will be
provided. At game time, if there is a problem with colors of shirts,
a coin toss will be done. Participants must wear proper gym attire,
no street clothing permitted.
JEWELRY
A player is not allowed to wear any jewelry (exceptions: medical
IDs, religious jewelry).

stocking feet, no bare feet, no street shoes, etc. Tennis shoes only

UMBC INTRAMURAL SUNDAY NIGHT BASKETBALL LEAGUE GAME
RULES
1. All games will consist of two (2) halves of
sixteen (16) minutes with a two (2) minute intermission between
halves (running time except the last two (2) minutes of each half
and the last minute of each overtime period.) Baskets will be
changed after each half. Overtime will consist of one three minute
(running time, the last minute will be stop time) period until a
winner is determined.
2. Forfeit time is ten (10) minutes after the
scheduled starting time.
3. Each team will have two (2) 30-second time-outs
per half. One additional time-out will be awarded for the overtime
period.
4. Captains will be the only players addressing the
officials.
5. Games will be played with five (5) players, but
teams may start with four (4).
6. Scrimmage vests with numbers will be provided
for both teams. All players must legibly sign in and record their
number on the score sheet to participate in the game. Any player not
properly signed in prior to the start of the game will result in a
Technical foul being assessed against the team when the player(s)
enters the game for the first time. This does not count as a player
technical or as a personal foul. Any subsequent players that sign in
late for that team will not be penalized.
7. Substitutions may be made at dead ball
situations. All players must check-in at the scorers table.
8. Each basket counts as two (2) points. Baskets
made from beyond the "3 point arc" will be counted as three (3)
points. Free throws will count as one (1) point. Technical,
flagrant, and intentional fouls will result in two (2) free throws
plus possession.
9. Teams and individual fouls will be recorded.
There will be bonus situations after the seventh (7) team foul of
that half. On the tenth (10) team foul and every team foul
thereafter, the opposing team will be awarded two (2) foul shots.
Technical fouls will be counted as both a team foul and a personal
foul. Technical fouls are two (2) shot fouls. A player is allowed up
to five (5) personal fouls. After the fifth personal foul, if there
are no substitutes, the player who has accumulated five (5) fouls
may continue to play. If that player commits any additional fouls it
will be handled as a foul plus a technical foul. Any combination of
two technical fouls, two personal fouls, or one of each will be
cause for an ejection. Ejected players must leave the playing area
and will automatically be suspended for their team's next game.
Anyone abusing the officials may be disqualified for the remainder
of the tournament.
10. A jump ball will determine first possession.
Alternate possession will be in effect for the remainder of the
game. If the game goes into overtime, a jump ball will be used to
start the overtime.
11. Taunting and/or unsportsmanlike conduct by
players, coaches, or spectators will not be tolerated. Violators
may be ejected from the game or from the tournament for not
complying with the basic philosophies of the UMBC Intramural
Program. Officials have been instructed to deal
with violators accordingly. Team Captain's are responsible for the
conduct of their team and their spectators.
NCAA rules will basically be followed except for the
above UMBC Intramural exceptions.
