Swim Lessons & Free Swim
Every child will have both a 40-50 minute long swim lesson everyday, as well as an hour long free swim period toward the end of the day everyday. All of our pool staff are experienced swim teachers and lifeguard certified. UMBC has an Olympic-sized outdoor swimming pool, a 12-foot deep diving well with 2 1-meter diving boards and 1 3-meter board, and a smaller indoor pool for newer swimmers and rainy days.

Arts & Crafts
Every child will also have Arts & Crafts everyday. Arts & Crafts is taught by a trained professional with extensive experience in working with children. Technique and skills teaching is geared to each age level. Children will be working in a variety of mediums, from beads to paint, from clay to peanut butter. Occasionally, children will be asked to bring in a thing or two from home such as an old sock, or paper towel and toilet paper rolls. Make sure you stay on top of any such notices. The end result will don your mantle or refrigerator door for years.

Tennis Lessons
Each group of children will receive tennis lessons about 2 or 3 times a week for about 40-50 minutes each. Tennis lessons will be geared toward different skill levels. The tennis lessons are instructed by experienced personnel in both tennis and working with children. Rackets are provided for the kids, but if a child has his or her own racket, they may opt to bring it with him or her.

Self Defense
All groups of children will have self defense about
2 or 3 times a week. Self defense is taught by an experienced professional
and all activities are suitable for each particular age group. The
kids learn techniques ranging from the proper way to do a forward
roll to several series of kicks and punches. All events are performed
on a completely matted floor in the Fitness Studio. |

Making Friends
UMBC Day Camp is a great way for friends to spend their summer together, and also a great way to meet new friends in your area. As does any day camp, UMBC tries very hard to maximize the amount of fun a child can have in an average day, and nothing does that more than friends. We promote the social interaction and good social behavior of our campers well above any other aspect of our camp. Because of this, I hope you'll find that UMBC Day Camp is a great place to spend the summer.
