Jill Randles joined the UMBC community in 1992. She initially served as the coordinator of evening student services and then moved to the College of Engineering and Information Technology. She held her position there for five years as coordinator and then director of undergraduate student services. In 2002, Randles moved to the Provost’s Office where she continues to serve as the assistant vice provost for undergraduate education.

In this position, she works with the dean and vice provost for undergraduate education to support, implement, administer and assess programs and initiatives that impact the quality of the educational experience of undergraduate students at UMBC. The initial work in this area is grounded in recommendations made by the Honors Task Force and the Student Life Task Force.

Randles works directly with all campus constituencies to develop plans that include short and long-term goals to address the needs of existing programs and to develop implementation strategies for new programs. One of the objectives of the work is to integrate the wide variety of academic and co-curricular opportunities available to ensure that students participate in programs that will support them in their academic and personal development throughout their years at UMBC. The current priority efforts include: The First-Year Academic Seminar Program, the "Introduction to an Honors University" seminar program, Writing in the Disciplines, Campus Connect and a living-learning community for exploratory majors.
