Acting Coordinator, Women’s Center
Galina Portnoy joined the Office of Undergraduate Education in August 2011 as Acting Coordinator for the Women's Center. In this position, she helps to develop and run programming that supports women and underserved groups on campus and coordinate day to day activities in the Women's Center. Galina is also a third year graduate student in UMBC's Human Services Psychology doctoral Program. She holds a B.A. in Psychology and Women's Health, with a minor in Women’s Studies, from the University of Connecticut. Galina's research explores the effects of discrimination on mental health and is interested in research that promotes social change. Her master's thesis examines whether Gay-Straight Alliances in high schools benefit the school community through enhancing positive school climate, sense of community, and decreasing sexual prejudice.
