Debbie Michaels joined UMBC in 2007 managing the administrative and financial duties for the Office of Institutional Advancement. In 2011, she was excited to take part of the university’s mission on the academic side and become a member of Undergraduate Education as a program management specialist. In this position, she works as part of the Policy Administration Team organizing, processing and managing case files.
Michaels experience, prior to joining UMBC, includes several years in the Maryland Division of Corrections as the regional clinic coordinator and the assistant to the Correctional Mental Health Center’s chief psychologist. In these positions, she created and managed inmate databases working closely with the medical directors, wardens, and security chiefs. Other database management experience includes working as a data processor, in a full service direct mail shop, which comprised of manipulating and formatting files containing up to 1.5 million records.
Presently, as an active member of UMBC’s union, Michaels holds the office of vice president, as well as, serves on the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees’ (AFSCME) Higher Ed Steering Committee.
