Many students enter college uncertain about what they want to study. Starting as an undeclared major is a positive experience because it gives you time to explore how your talents and interests will match with a UMBC major. By joining the Exploratory Majors Living Learning Community you will have the opportunity to live alongside other students who are also exploring majors, and you will be connected to faculty and staff who plan activities to help you learn more about the University.
Community members, guided by a Peer Mentor who lived on the floor previously, discuss areas of on- and off-campus life they want to learn more about setting in motion the programs and activities for the year. Our goal is for residents to connect to each other and the campus, ensuring that everyone finds their place both academically and socially.

By the end of the first year, as a member of the Exploratory Majors Community, you will have completed a first-year experience course as part of your academic exploration. You will also have received individual attention from the Office of Undergraduate Education (coordinating office), Office of Academic and Pre-professional Advising (major exploration), Career Services (possible careers) and the Shriver Center (service-learning and internships). You will also have been provided with opportunities to participate in social activities such as movies, athletic events, and excursions to events in the local community and in Baltimore.
