Costs and Financial Aid

The costs listed below are from Summer 2014 and rough estimate of what to expect in terms of costs for Summer 2015.

Tuition and Fees

Package One (Participating in ONE Track: Either Math or Writing)

  • Tuition and Fees for 4 to 5 credits: $1,424 - $1,775 (all CSI students receive the Maryland in-state tuition rate for the courses they take as part of the CSI Program)
    • CSI Programming Fee = $300 (includes all CSI programming, staff support, workshops and academic support through the first year.)
    Total = $1,724 - $2,075

Package Two (Participating in TWO Tracks: Both Math and Writing)

  • Tuition and Fees for 7 to 8 credits: $2,477 - $2,828 (all CSI students receive the Maryland in-state tuition rate for the courses they take as part of the CSI Program)
    • CSI Programming Fee = $300 (includes all CSI programming, staff support, workshops and academic support through the first year.)
    Total = $2,777 - $3,128

Billing

Students will receive an e-bill the first business day of each month via myumbc, please visit Student Billing for additional information.

A summer session Monthly Payment Plan (MPP) is available. Students who sign a contract for CSI by April 1st will qualify for 3 payment installations (due April 20, May 20, and June 20). Students who sign a contract for CSI by May 1st will qualify for 2 payment installations (due May 20 and June 20). Students who sign a contract for CSI by June 1st will have their bills due by July 20. Please visit Summer Plan to learn more about our available MPP.

Additionally, students who qualify for the IHU Scholarship (see below for details) will receive a scholarship equivalent to the cost of one-credit applied to their student account for the fall semester. Students receiving this refund will have to select a preference for how their e-refund will be issued (e-refund debit card, direct deposit, or paper check). Introduction to an Honors University (IHU) ScholarshipScholarship Mini

Upon successful completion of the CSI program (maintaining a 3.00 GPA or higher in CSI coursework), eligible students will receive a scholarship equivalent to the cost of one-credit which will be applied applied directly to their student account during the semester. 


Book ScholarshipBook Scholarship Mini

The Office of Undergraduate Education provides each CSI student with a book scholarship (up to $100) to cover the cost of books for ONE course during CSI. Students have the option to take two courses during the CSI program but only the cost of books for one course will be covered and students will need to purchase the books for their second course. 

Financial Aid

Financial aid is limited during the summer term. Students must be enrolled for summer courses through the CSI program and demonstrate significant financial need per the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to qualify for financial aid during CSI. Students with significant financial needs are those who qualify for the Federal Pell Grant. For more information, visit the Financial Aid website.
