Schedule Adjustment Period

During the first four days of Session I and II, you can add courses, swap courses or drop courses.

Schedule Adjustment Periods:
May 30 - June 2 (Session I)
July 10 - July 13 (Session II)

Add a course:

Registration remains open during the first four days of each summer session.  The instructor reserves the right to deny registration in classes that have already met.  Check with the instructor before adding a new course to ensure that you can make up missed work.  Courses added during schedule adjustment will be assessed a non-refundable $20 late registration fee.  Visit the Registrar’s website for step-by-step instruction on how to add a course.

Swap a course:

During the schedule adjustment period you can “swap” a course for another course with the same number of credits without academic or financial penalty. Check with the instructor before adding a new course to ensure that you can make up missed work. The instructor reserves the right to deny registration in classes that have already met. Be sure to add the new class to your schedule before dropping the old class.  Visit the Registrar’s website for step-by-step instruction on how to swap courses.

Drop a course:

A pro-rated refund is issued for courses dropped during the schedule adjustment period.  Courses dropped during schedule adjustment are not considered an attempt.  After schedule adjustment, your transcript will reflect a "W" for any dropped courses.  Visit the Registrar’s website for step-by-step instruction on how to drop a course.

Schedule changes after the Schedule Adjustment Period

After June 2 (Session I) or July 13 (Session II), submit a myUMBC Help Request to the Registrar's Office for the following changes:

Change grade method from regular to pass/fail

Verify the last day to change your grading method from regular to pass/fail.

Drop a course with a grade of “W”

Dropping a course after schedule adjustment is considered a course attempt.   Verify the last day to drop your course.  Your transcript will reflect a "W" for the dropped course and there is no financial refund for the course.  After the last day to drop courses with a grade of "W," the only way to drop a course is to request a complete semester withdrawal.

Complete semester withdrawal

After the deadline to drop courses with a grade of "W," you are not permitted to drop individual courses.  You must withdraw from the entire session and drop all courses in the session.  Your transcript will reflect a "Session withdrawal".

Please be aware of all academic and financial deadlines.
