If you have a bachelor's degree and a strong desire to become a teacher, our MAT (Master of Arts in Teaching) degree will lead to certification to teach. Teachers with master's degrees earn higher salaries and prestige. Why just get certified when you can get a master's degree at the same time?

UMBC has a great opportunity if you have a background in science, technology, engineering or math (STEM). Our unique STEM MAT degree program is an intensive, full-time one-year program based in Baltimore County public schools where you'll teach fulltime while completing your degree. Funded by the National Science Foundation, the program offers full tuition and a $28,000 stipend.

…If you're currently a teacher in Maryland and want to deepen your knowledge and add to your credentials, UMBC's MAE (Master of Arts in Education) degree can make a difference in your career. Our programs are designed for working professionals and will fit into your busy life. UMBC offers the MAE degree for both individual teachers and for cohorts of teachers who enroll through their school district.


+ INTERESTED IN TEACHING ENGLISH AS A
SECOND LANGUAGE?
UMBC's MA ESOL degree and 12-credit online certificate can prepare you to teach adults and K-12 students. If you are already a certified K-12 teacher, you can add an ESOL endorsement to your certificate or move right into a master's degree in ESOL. Completing UMBC's NCATE accredited MA In ESOL degree or certificate program will add to your credentials and knowledge while preparing you for a teaching career in a high-need field.
