The UMBCs production Student Information System (SIS) is located on a HP box. Its data is held in a local HP format that is not directly compatible with new Databases like Oracle.
The Graduate School uses a “copy” of the above SIS data. The data is synchronized nightly to a SIS Shadow Database. This database is held in Oracle tables.
The Graduate School then often utilizes ODBC links to these sis shadow tables, in order to be used on desktop machines and applications. Staff have been allowed to have limited access to these SIS shadow tables. See here for a Partial Access Tables list.
